I have been updating my Halloween decor. My kids told me that last year I didn’t do enough for Halloween so I decided it was time to do some Halloween sewing and crafts.
The first thing I did was alter some little orange plastic pumpkins.
I found an extra dictionary, cut pages into strips and decoupaged them onto the pumpkins using ModPodge. When dry, I used some watercolor pencils to “age” them and give them faces. I got this basic idea from Cloth, Paper, Scissors Magazine. Really fun. The handles were replaced with ribbons.
My daughter and I then painted and decorated letters spelling Trick Or Treat. I used the little pumpkins to help support the words.
We first painted the white letters orange and black:
Once the letters were dry, I Mod Podged paper onto the fronts and backs of the letters. Then I glittered the letters. Finally, I glued them together.
I decided to do something different for the front doors and made little quilts.
Years ago I made starched cheesecloth ghosts to hang for Halloween. Last year I finally threw them away. So this year I decided to make some new ones. These turned out much larger than the old ones, but I like the effect.
I didn’t make the quilts this year. Those are quilts I made some time ago from Mount Redoubt patterns.
I did finish a day of the dead table runner. I have to thank my friend Melissa for the idea. I love the way it turned out!
Outside I got out the old skeletons. One is in pieces so I just arranged him in a witch’s cauldron. The other sits on a chair. In the fountain, I arranged some Indian corn and gourds.
I have a little paper mache ghost that I pull out and revive every year. This year she needed major repainting. I gave her a little sparkly cat, some gourds and a hat. The live cat in the picture is our 3 year old siamese, Mr. Whiskers.
Finally I brought out the pumpkin placemats that I made a few years ago and paired them on the table with little sparkly pumpkin coasters. And we are decorated for Halloween!
Happy Halloween everyone!
