Ever have one of those sidetracked kind of days?

Have you ever had one of those days when the thing(s) that you woke up thinking you were going to do does not even come close to what you end up doing?  That was my day today…

My daughter (14 years old) recently quit swim team.  Not wanting her to forego the benefits of exercise, we have enrolled her in yoga classes.   The first night, I grabbed a blank canvas tote for her to carry her stuff in.  The next time she wanted to take that same blank canvas tote.

Are you getting the picture, AAAWWWKKK – BLANK canvas tote – that’s where my mind has been going.  I mean, blank canvas tote, REALLY!  Have I not made a million cute totes to give to friends and neighbors for gifts?  Yes, I have!  So today, after breakfast and yes, a bit of facebooking, instead of sitting down to finish that quilt I’ve been working on, I decided to make a little monster which led to making a new tote.

I’ve monsters on the mind since before Christmas when I saw a project online.  You can see project at the following link:

So I decided to make my own version of a monster tote.  I used blanket stitch around the eyes and the monster.  I actually have never tried blanket stitch before.   The rest of the parts I just stitched down near the edge.

For the lining, I used a center panel of the monster’s material with side panels of the black dotted fabric.

I love the black dotted fabric.  I bought it last summer when my husband & I spent a couple of days in San Francisco.  One day while he had business meetings, I walked over to Britex Fabrics.  If you are not from the San Francisco area or do not know fabric, it’s 4 floors of heaven just off Union Square.  Here’s a tip though if you’ve never been, go up to the floor that has remnants.  You can get wonderful pieces of fabrics at a fraction of the cost.  Their remnants are usually multiple yard cuts.

Hope you like my little tote.  My daughter will definitely be more stylish at yoga class!  Please leave me your comments!
